Hello, I’m Dimitris Afentoulis. I was born on April 1984, in Marousi, Athens. I spent my childhood in Kallithea until the age of 12, when my family moved to Kamatero. Over the years, I’ve also lived in Crete, Nea Smyrni, and for a short time in Izmir, Turkey.
My roots are in Crete and Rhodes. I studied Business Administration with a focus on Marketing at the Piraeus University of Applied Sciences, and I hold a Master’s degree in Finance and Banking, as well as a Diploma in Negotiations, both from the Athens University of Economics and Business. Since 2015, I’ve been working as an insurance consultant at Interamerican, a role I take pride in, as it has allowed me to grow and succeed professionally.
My love for writing began at the age of 16, when I started creating short stories in the form of rhyming song lyrics. At 30, I participated in a creative writing workshop, where I began drafting a comedic novel. However, due to professional and personal obligations, I had to set writing aside for 10 years. In the summer of 2024, after a series of personal life changes, I rediscovered my passion for storytelling and completed my first novel, Marsias, in just three months. Feeling deeply connected to the story, I decided to translate it into English myself.
Marsias is the first part of a trilogy exploring psychological violence, how it can break a person, leading to self-destruction, but also to rebirth. Through my writing, I aim to tell stories that resonate deeply with readers, helping them see the world from a new perspective. I see my writing as a voice from the abyss, warning: “Be careful!”
In my free time, I enjoy finance and investments, gaming, exploring new cities, and traveling, which often inspires my love for photography. I am a highly organized person who deeply values friendships, and music is my primary source of energy and inspiration.
I want my readers to experience my stories as vividly as my characters do. I imagine my writing as a painting: sometimes with sharp lines and details, and other times without lines, bursting with vibrant colors that blend together. These two approaches allow me to balance the reader’s imagination with the emotions I intend to convey.
